Condi Going Native?

The Secretary of State has set up the Israeli Army as a shooting gallery for Palestinian killers.

Israel and the Palestinian Authority have agreed that more than 1,200 Jewish settler homes in the Gaza Strip will be demolished after Israel withdraws in late summer, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said yesterday.

Building housing will be "a centerpiece of what could be really good for the Palestinian people" as a result of Israel's pullout, Miss Rice said after two days of meetings with Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

"Israel and the Palestinian Authority agree that the appropriate result is the complete removal of all settler homes in Gaza," she said. "Israel will undertake the dismantling of the dwellings."

Why force the Israelis to do the demolition when the Palestinians are such great demolishers? For example, yesterday, they tried to
blow up a hospital.

The IDF thwarted a suicide bomb attack Monday morning when soldiers caught a young woman, Wafa Samir Ibrahim Bas, 20, wearing explosives strapped into her underwear at the Erez crossing in the northern Gaza Strip.

…she was recruited by the Fatah Al-Aksa Brigades' in northern Gaza and was instructed to blow up in Israel at the Soroka Medical Center.

And they did
blow up a car (my ellipsis).

An Israeli motorist was killed and another was lightly wounded when shots were fired at their car early Monday morning.

The (wounded kid next to the murdered driver), succeeded in taking control of the car and reached within 100 meters of the checkpoint when the car caught fire, apparently due to a bullet that hit the gas tank.

And I don’t see State flagging this it as a breach of the ceasefire, because, well, the
killers said it wasn’t!

Islamic Jihad terrorists claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was retaliation for the alleged desecration of the Koran at a prison in Israel, and Israel's continued pursuit of the group's members.

But Khadr Adnan, an Islamic Jihad spokesman in the West Bank, said the attack didn't signal the end of the group's cease-fire with Israel. "We are still committed to calm," he said.

Actually, here’s why the Palestinians want the Israelis to stick around and do the demolition.

Senior (Israeli) army officers (are) opposed the demolition because of the significant security risks it raises, with soldiers having to protect work gangs as they blow up and bulldoze thousands of structures.

The Palestinians are already tooling up.

A gun battle yesterday between Israeli soldiers protecting a group of workers and Palestinian gunmen led to one death on each side.

So, here’s what Condi has set up. Instead of a clean and quick exit, the Israeli Army has to cover an extended withdrawal, under fire. The Palestinians will attack with everything they have and claim to have driven the Israelis out. And I’m guessing that Condi will use maximum pressure to stop the Israelis retaliating with “excessive force”.

So, a bunch of Israelis will be killed and State gets to prove its even-handedness.

If it happens, Ms Rice will become the first member of the Bush administration to be given Criminal status in the
ETF Ecosystem. Ma’am, you have been warned.
