Thanks Jacques!

Chirac is making a habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Here are Londoners celebrating their win against Paris for the 2012 Olympics.

As Mr. Chirac, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Russian President Vladimir Putin traded belly laughs at a cafe in the Russian city of Kaliningrad...Mr. Chirac said, "the only thing [the British] have given European agriculture is the mad cow." "You can't trust people who cook as badly as that," he said of the British. "After Finland, it's the country with the worst food."

The day after this report, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted on the venue for the 2012 Olympics for which the front-runners were Paris and London:

...two Finnish IOC members...votes could be crucial in light of Mr. Chirac's food review.

And the winner was...

The final count was (London) 54-50 for Paris.

So if the Finns were insulted into voting for for the Brits, Chirac gave up a 52-52 draw. Long may he reign.
