Reuters' Phantom

Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom Of The Opera, is a tragedy about a disfigured fanatic who lurks in the Paris Opera whence he stalks an innocent. It all ends badly for him. In a post-modern interpretation, a mentally deranged Reuters employee is stalking Charles of LGF from a lair in London's Canary Wharf. That’s also looking pretty bad for the stalker.

The LGF stalking started with an email to Charles from a Reuters London IP address, which read:

I look forward to the day when you pigs get your throats cut....

Torrid stuff! Charles complained to Reuters, who stonewalled:

Following your email regarding the posting of an offensive message that was sent from a Reuters IP address, I can confirm that an employee has been suspended pending further investigation. The individual was not an employee of Reuters’ news division.

But still the Phantom lives, drawn like a moth to the flame of LGF – which has helpfully added a sidebar that records the number of visits from the Reuters IP address. At the time of writing, the Phantom visit count was:

Today: 43
Yesterday: 136

For symmetry with the original, the tragedy will end with the demise of the modern Phantom in the flames of his lair.

I hope not – I have mates working next door to these creeps.
